Flyer printers to make 'business investment' by improving sustainability?

Companies - such as flyer printers - can save energy at minimal cost, it has been claimed.

Flyer printing firms may wish to make environmentally-friendly changes to their business following recent comments from one sustainability expert.

John Barwise, chairman of the Cumbria Green Business Forum, said companies can take steps to reduce waste and energy at minimal cost and even, in some cases, saving money.

Commenting on Unilever's recently-unveiled Sustainable Living Plan - which outlines proposals to halve the environmental footprint of its products - he described the move as "fantastic news".

However, the specialist asked: "Why has it taken so long to realise that going green is a sound business investment?"

Mr Barwise added it is worth noting many of the smaller organisations in Unilever's supply chain will not have the resources to adjust to the new plans and it is the firm's responsibility to support them in this, ensuring "sustainability sits right across the life cycle of all [its] products and services".

Upon announcing the proposals, chief executive officer of the company Paul Polman stated growth is not viable when it comes at any price.
